How to create your own organic massage oil
If you are planning to give massages to your friends and/or family, it is important to use a good massage oil.
The easiest way of course is buying premixed massage oils in any store or on the internet. There is a large choice of all kinds of oils available in different prices and they offer a wide range of effects.
But in many industrial massage oils it’s not always clear which ingredients and essential oils are being used and if they are synthetic, natural or organic.
Premixed oils will always be more expensive than the ones you make yourself as you pay for marketing and packaging. Be aware that fancy names do not make the oils better.
It can be exciting and fulfilling to experience preparing your own massage oils.
You can choose the ingredients yourself and you can add your personal touch.
You will also be guaranteed that no chemicals and additional supplements are added.
1 Choose an organic carrier oil.
The main ingredient of your massage oil is a carrier oil.
There are about 21 different carrier oils. Almond, Sesame, Coconut, Olive, Grape and Argon are a few of them.
All oils have their own identity so it’s your personal choice which carrier oil to choose.
A good basic carrier oil is Sesame or Grape oil. The touch is soft and fluid with a neutral scent.
2 Add your choice of organic essential oils.
Mixing the carrier oil with your choice of organic essential oils will define your personal massage oil.
Make sure the essential oils are of the purest quality without synthetic mixtures.
They can be bought in pharmacies and health stores.
Add not more than a total of 15 to 20 drops of essential oil for 200ml of carrier oil.
Be aware that essential oils are very powerful and need to be handled with care. Allergies can occur.
There are hundreds of essential oils and they all have their specific therapeutic value.
So choosing which oils to use depends of the type of massage you want to give.
Here are three examples of blends you can prepare yourself:
1- Relaxing and calming massage: Ylang Ylang, Frankincense, Lavender and Rose essential oils.
2- Uplifting and energizing massage: Peppermint, Grapefruit, Eucalyptus and Lemongrass essential oils.
3- Sore and stiff muscle massage: Sandalwood, Ginger, Thyme and Turmeric essential oils.
Add the 4 essential oils with your carrier oil (4 to 5 drops of each essential oil with 200 ml of carrier oil).
Mix them well together.
Apply a small quantity of massage oil on the body part that needs to be massaged.
The movements should become smooth without any friction.
You can always add more oil if necessary.
Do not apply too much oil as it leaves an uncomfortable and too greasy feeling for the recipient afterwards.
By creating your personal massage oil you will enjoy the massage even more as you are guaranteed of the highest quality by using your choice of selected ingredients.
Enjoy your massage!
